Staphylococcus aureus penicilling binding protein 2a and its allosteric control

The following three papers provide an excellent insight/mechanism of how penicillin binding protein 2a (Pbp2a) of S. aureus possesses an allosteric site that can be bound by peptidoglycan substrate and inhibitor such as ceftaroline (a new generation cephalosporin) and it control structure/activity of the catalytic site (60 angstroms away). Together these three papers make a great example of bench-to-bedside scientific literature and a good journal club discussion.
